Sight Word Worksheets, One Word at a Time

Pick the word your class is on this week and print a sheet made only for it.

When this week's word is said or the, a sheet of forty mixed words is no help. Each page here makes a worksheet for a single word.

97 pages

Words of 1 or 2 letters 25

The shortest words, and the easiest to mix up with each other: a, I, am, an, as, at, be, by, do, go and the rest.

Words of 3 letters 31

Some sound out letter by letter, such as and, can and big. Others, such as the, was and one, do not.

Words of 4 letters 30

Most of these carry a letter team or a silent letter: said, they, have, come, what.

Words of 5 letters or more 11

The longest words in the set. Several hide a silent or doubled letter: could, little, funny, where.

More about these tools

The child traces the word and writes it, circles it in a grid of look-alikes chosen for that word, writes it into a sentence that has a gap, reads and copies a second sentence, and cuts out letter tiles to put in order. An answer key prints last.

Under the sheet each page lists the practice lines written for its word: rows to circle, rows with letters missing, phrases and short sentences. Each page also says what makes its word hard: the letter that does not say its usual sound, the word it gets mixed up with, or the way it shrinks in fast speech. To put several words on one sheet, use sight word worksheets.
