How it works
These letter V tracing worksheets begin with 3 dotted rows of capital V and 3 of lowercase v, then van and vet, each with an empty row. Below are 46 V words and 21 more that end in ve.

Page 1 is V and v, page 2 is van and vet
At Large (19 mm), 3 rows hold 15 capital V's and 24 lowercase v's. Page 2 holds van and vet 9 times each. Capital V is about 17 mm tall. Lowercase v stops at the dashed line, about 12. Your typing replaces all four sample rows. To keep the letter rows, type V on line 1 of the Words box and v v v v on line 2.
Pick V words by where the v sits
Van, vet and vest start with v and a short vowel, where the sound is easiest to hear. River, oven and seven carry it in the middle. At the end of a word the v sound is normally spelled ve, as in have and five.
- Find the dot first: on V and v it tops the left-hand line, and the point rests on the baseline.
- Trace letter W next: both lowercase dots sit at the top left, just under the dashed line.
Questions and answers
Why do have and give end in an e?
English spelling avoids a v at the end of a word: the v sound there is normally written ve. Have, give, live and love carry an e that does nothing to the vowel. In five, cave and stove the e also makes the vowel long.
How do I keep v and u apart on the page?
Watch the bottom: v has a sharp point on the baseline, where u is round. In the Late Middle Ages they were one letter: v began a word, u went elsewhere, so upon was printed vpon. Type v u v u in the Words box.
Can I print a V name such as Val or Violet?
Yes. Type it in the Words box and the sample rows give way. Val fits 3 times across a row, Vera and Violet twice, Victoria once. A share link carries what you typed, so leave student names out. Pick another letter from the letter list.
