All 26 capital letters

Sticks and bars 6

  • E 4 strokes, the most of any capital in this style: stick down, then the top bar, the middle bar and the bottom bar, each from left to right. The middle bar is the shortest.
  • F 3 strokes. Stick down, top bar, then a shorter bar across the middle. It is E without the bottom bar.
  • H 3 strokes. Stick down on the left, stick down on the right, then a bar across the middle to join them.

Sticks and bars, continued

  • I 3 strokes. Stick down the center first, then a short bar on top and a short bar along the bottom line.
  • L 1 stroke. Stick down, then turn the corner and run along the bottom line to the right.
  • T 2 strokes. Stick down the center first, then the bar across the top from left to right.

Slants 9

  • A 3 strokes. Both slants start at the point on the top line: down to the left, then down to the right. The bar goes across last, left to right.
  • K 2 strokes. Stick down first. Then start at the top right, slant in to the middle of the stick and slant out to the bottom right without lifting.
  • M 2 strokes. Stick down on the left. Back at the top left, slant down to the bottom line, slant up to the top right and come straight down.
  • N 2 strokes. Stick down on the left. Back at the top left, slant down to the bottom right and go straight up to the top line.
  • V 1 stroke. Slant down to a point on the bottom line, then slant up to the top right.
  • W 1 stroke. Down, up, down, up. The middle point stops short of the top line in this style. W is the widest capital.
  • X 2 strokes. One slant from the top left to the bottom right, then one from the top right to the bottom left. They cross in the middle.
  • Y 2 strokes. A short slant from the top left to the middle. Then from the top right, slant in to meet it and go straight down.
  • Z 1 stroke. Along the top line to the right, a long slant down to the bottom left, then along the bottom line.

Round letters 5

  • C 1 stroke. Start just under the top line on the right, curve up and over to the left, down around the bottom line and stop on the right.
  • G 1 stroke. Make a C, keep going up to the middle, then turn a short bar in toward the center.
  • O 1 stroke. Start at the top, go around to the left and close the circle where you began.
  • Q 2 strokes. Make an O, then add a short tail at the bottom right. The tail is the only part of any capital that dips under the bottom line.
  • S 1 stroke. Start near the top on the right, curve left, swing back across the middle to the right and finish with a curve to the lower left.

A stick with a curve 6

  • B 2 strokes. Stick down first. Back at the top, curve out to the middle, then out again to the bottom of the stick. The lower bump is the wider one.
  • D 2 strokes. Stick down first. Back at the top, one wide curve out to the right and down to the foot of the stick.
  • J 1 stroke. Start at the top, go straight down and hook to the left along the bottom line. This style puts no bar on top.
  • P 2 strokes. Stick down first. Back at the top, curve out and close on the stick at the middle.
  • R 2 strokes. Stick down first. Back at the top, curve in to the middle like a P, then kick a leg out to the bottom right without lifting.
  • U 1 stroke. Straight down on the left, around the bottom line and straight back up on the right. This style adds no stem.

How this list was compiled: Written for this site. The 26 letters and the 5 vowel letters were checked against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_alphabet on 2026-09-18. The four stroke families, the stroke counts and the stroke notes were checked letter by letter on 2026-09-19 against the stroke paths behind the numbered arrows of this tool's Print style, which is the Andika font (https://software.sil.org/andika/). Each note describes one common way to form the capital, in the order the arrows are numbered. Handwriting programs differ, so follow your school's scheme where it disagrees. Licence: own work

How this list was compiled: Written for this site: 52 common given names, two for each letter, chosen so that every capital has a word to start. They are not the names of real people. That a capital letter starts a proper noun, such as a name, was checked against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letter_case on 2026-09-19. Which lowercase letters rise above the middle line (b, d, f, h, k, l, t) and which drop below the bottom line (g, j, p, q, y) were read from this tool's Print style, the Andika font (https://software.sil.org/andika/), on 2026-09-19. A name carries a note only where one of its letters drops below the bottom line. Licence: own work

How it works

This uppercase letter tracing sheet opens on all 26 capitals on 1 page, with numbered stroke arrows and an empty row under every row. They run in teaching order: sticks and bars, slants, round letters, then sticks with curves.

All 26 capitals on the first sheet

At Large (19 mm) the capitals wrap onto 4 rows, and with 4 empty rows they fill 1 page. Extra large (26 mm) takes 2 pages. For one family alone, open Pick from the 15 lines of capitals and press it, such as C G O Q. Your pick replaces the sample.

Four stroke families, 48 strokes

The list under the tool sorts the capitals by what builds them: 6 are sticks and bars, 9 have a slant, 5 are round and 6 join a stick to a curve. In this style 10 take 1 stroke, 11 take 2, A, F, H and I take 3 and E takes 4. Only the tail of Q dips under the bottom line.

  • For uppercase alphabet tracing in ABC order, type A to Z with spaces. It still fits 1 page.
  • Under More options, What to practice, Capital letters gives one capital a row, starting with L, T, I and H.

Questions and answers

Why are the words on the One letter sheet names?

Capital letters start a sentence and a proper noun, such as the name of a person, a city or a month. So every letter has two given names, from Ava and Adam to Zoe and Zane. Only the first letter of each is a capital.

Is there an uppercase letter tracing worksheets PDF?

The tool makes one on your own device. Press Print or save as PDF and pick Save as PDF where the printers are listed. The file keeps the letter height, letter style and paper you chose. There is no sign-up.

Does every school write capitals in this stroke order?

No. These capital letter tracing worksheets show one common way: pull down first, make round letters to the left and draw bars from left to right. Where your school's scheme differs, clear Show numbered arrows for the strokes under More options. The starting dots stay.
