How it works

These Christmas tracing worksheets open on gift, star, tree and bell. Each is a dotted row with starting dots above an empty row. Press any of the 102 words under Pick from the 111 words and rows. The first press replaces the sample.

Read the full guide

What prints on the page

At Large (19 mm) a page holds 8 rows: 4 words and 4 empty rows. On Letter every word is traced 3 times across its row. On A4 "tree" fits twice. These Christmas tracing sheets print no pictures, so draw in the empty rows.

Match the words to the child

At the foot of this page, every word carries its letter count, tall letters and tails. Start with short-letter words such as snow, cone, oven and nose. Move to one tall letter (star, red, ham). Keep sleigh, stocking and gingerbread for confident writers. A child not yet on letters gets 9 pattern rows. Try "o o o o" for ornaments and "J J J J" for a candy cane held upside down.

  • For a 4-year-old, set Letter height to Extra large (26 mm) and pick 3 words. Four at that height run to 2 pages.
  • Draw a sleigh at one end of an empty row and a chimney at the other. The child joins them.

Questions and answers

Do the sheets have Christmas pictures on them?

No. The tool prints letters on guide lines. Gift, star, bell, candle and snowman get drawn in the empty row under the traced word.

Are there words from the Christmas story?

Yes, 12, in a group of their own headed The Christmas story. They are manger, stable, shepherd, lamb, donkey, ox, inn, hay, gold, baby, wise men and angel. The other 90 words cover the tree, gifts, Santa, food, snow and good wishes.

How do I fit Merry Christmas on one row for a card?

Under More options, set What to practice to Words or sentences. Set Letter height to Medium (14 mm). Press "Merry Christmas" under Pick from the 34 practice lines. It takes two rows at Large. "Dear Santa," and "With love from" are in the same list.
