Two pages at Large, on Letter or A4
Page 1 is the letter: 5 capital N's to a row, then 8 lowercase n's in 2 groups of 4, on 3 rows each. Capital N starts at the dot high on its left line. Lowercase n starts just under the dashed line. Typing in the Words box clears all four sample rows. To keep N and n n n n, press them first in Pick from the 80 rows and words.
What the n says, group by group
At the front (net, nose) and at the end (sun, ten) n says its own sound. Before k it says ng: pink, sink, trunk. After a final m it is silent: autumn, hymn. Start with nap, net, nip, nod and nut, one per short vowel.
- Net, nap and nip read backwards are ten, pan and pin: n first, then last. All fit 3 across.
- Type n u n u in the Words box: n opens at the bottom, u at the top.
- At Extra large (26 mm), set Rows to trace to 2, under More options, to stay at 2 pages.
Questions and answers
Why does the n in pink sound different from the n in pin?
Before k, the letter n stands for ng, the sound at the end of ring. Say pin, then pink, and feel the tongue pull back. The list keeps 7 such words in their own group. The other letters are sorted the same way.
Which letters start where lowercase n starts?
In the Print style, m, r, p and u have their starting dot where n has it: at the top left, just under the dashed line. A child who can find the dot on n can find it on those four.
Can the sheet print a child's name, like Noah or Nina?
Yes. Press one of the 9 N first names in Pick from the 80 rows and words. Or type any name in the Words box. Noah and Nina fit twice across a row. A share link holds your typed text, so keep student names out.
