How it works

These fall tracing worksheets open on a finished page: leaf, acorn, apple and pumpkin in dotted letters, each above an empty row. Type your own words, or pick from the 100 fall words in the list, from oak to hibernate.

Read the full guide

One page, 8 rows

Under the Name and Date line are 8 rows at Large (19 mm): 4 words, each with its empty row. Leaf is traced 3 times across, acorn and apple twice, pumpkin once. A fifth word makes a second page, so trade words instead of adding. No picture prints, so the empty row is where the child draws the acorn.

Pick fall words by letter height

Each word is marked with its tall letters and tails. Corn, rain, moon and crow use short letters only. Oak, leaf and bark bring in tall letters. Hold the tails of pumpkin, zipper and squirrel for later, and the capitals of September, October and November for last. Leaf beside leaves, or goose beside geese, shows a plural that changes its spelling.

  • After a leaf walk, trace leaf, twig, bark and acorn, then tape each find into its empty row.
  • At Extra large (26 mm), type or pick 3 words. They replace the 4 samples and stay on 1 page.

Questions and answers

Do the fall sheets print pictures of leaves or pumpkins?

No, only letters on guide lines, so the child draws the apple or the barn in the empty row. For wavy and zigzag paths without letters, print the line tracing worksheets.

Can I use these for a harvest or Thanksgiving week?

Yes. The farm and harvest group holds 27 words, among them corn, husk, gourd, cranberry and scarecrow. For a card, open More options and set What to practice to Words or sentences. Happy Thanksgiving takes two rows at Large and one at Medium (14 mm).

Do these work as fall tracing worksheets preschool classes can use?

Yes. Start with the 8 pattern rows, which need no spelling: v v v v is a flock of geese. Then pick from the 10 short-letter words, such as corn, rain, moon and crow, and set Letter height to Extra large for small hands.
