How it works

Spring tracing worksheets preschool children can finish start small: rain, bee, nest and kite, each dotted across one row with starting dots, above an empty row. The list adds 95 more spring words and 8 pattern rows.

Read the full guide

What the first sheet looks like

At Large (19 mm) the page has 8 rows under the Name and Date line: a dotted row and an empty row for each of the 4 words. Rain, bee and kite are traced 3 times across the row and nest twice. The empty row is also where a child draws the nest or the kite.

Choose words the child can manage

Begin with the pattern rows, such as l l l l for falling rain and n n n n for the humps of a caterpillar. Six words use short letters only: sun, rain, worm, crocus, cocoon and season. Add one tall letter next (mud, bud, ant), then tails (egg, frog, puddle). Butterfly, caterpillar and chrysalis each fill a row once, so save them.

  • For loop practice, the child joins a hand-drawn bee and flower at opposite ends of an empty row.
  • At Extra large (26 mm), rain, bee and kite fit 1 page. A fourth word starts a second.
