How it works

These winter tracing worksheets start on snow, sled, ice and cold in dotted letters, an empty row under each. None of the four has a tail, so every letter sits on the line. The list has 100 winter words.

Read the full guide

How snow, sled, ice and cold fit

At Large (19 mm) sled and ice are traced 3 times across and snow twice. Cold goes 3 times on Letter, twice on A4. With the Name and Date line that makes 8 rows, a full page, so swap words rather than add a fifth. Under snow, draw a flake: an x with one more line through its middle has 6 arms.

Short letters first, tails last

Snow, ice, sun, zero and moose use short letters only. Sled, cold, hat and melt add tall letters. Tails arrive with penguin, igloo, hockey and puzzle. February brings a capital and an r that many people never say. The 9 pattern rows need no spelling: 8 8 8 8 is a line of two-ball snowmen.

  • Put polar bear and penguin on one sheet and ask where each lives. They never meet in the wild.

No. Only letters and guide lines print. Snowman, mitten, hat, icicle and igloo are quick to draw in the empty rows, and paths with no letters are on the line tracing worksheets.

Yes. Three of the seven groups need no snow. Clothes has 14 words, such as hat, wool and knit. Warm indoors has soup, mug and quilt. Animals of the cold brings penguin, walrus and moose. South of the equator, winter means June, July and August.

Can I make a New Year card or a sign for the boot tray?

Yes. Open More options and set What to practice to Words or sentences. Happy New Year runs onto a second row at Large and sits on one at Medium (14 mm). Boots go here and Stay warm each fit one row at Large.
