Two pages at Large
Page 1 is the letter: 6 capital R's to a row on Letter, 5 on A4, then lowercase r in 3 groups of 3. Capital R starts at the top of its straight line. Typing in the Words box clears all four sample rows; to keep R and r r r, press them first in Pick from the 70 rows and words.
Where the r sits
Start at the front with rat, red, rib, rock and rug, one per short vowel. Then r second, blended: tree, frog, crab. After a vowel the r changes it: car, bird, fur, corn. Write, wrist and wrap start with the r sound behind a silent w.
- Type r n in the Words box: both start at the same dot, just under the dashed line.
- Rib, jar and the Rr pair fit 4 times across a row on Letter at Large.
Questions and answers
Why does write start with a w?
The w is written but not said, so write, wrist, wrap, wrong, wren and wreath all start with the r sound. They sit in one group of the letter R tracing page with rhino and rhyme, whose h is silent.
What happens to the r in car and bird?
After a vowel, r joins it to make one sound: ar in car and star, er in bird, girl, fur and turtle, or in corn and horse. The 10 such words share their own group on the letter r tracing sheets.
Can I trace a name like Ruby or Ryan?
Yes. Pick from the 70 rows and words has 8 R first names, from Ruby and Ryan to Rafael and Rita. Or type any name in the Words box. A share link holds your typed text, so keep student names out.
