Write it so a stranger can teach it
Press Print the lesson plan. Give each row a time and one plain instruction, and say where the materials are. The top lines name students who can help and an adult to ask. Notes for me, at the foot, is where the substitute writes back to you.
A sub lesson plan template for one period
For a middle or high school day, one sheet plans a single period step by step and another gives Period 1 to Period 6 a row. The homeroom sheet runs from Morning routine to End of day for an elementary class.
- Fill in the class information sheet once and keep it in the sub folder all year.
- Emergency sub plans has three tall rows for activities that work on any day.
Questions and answers
What goes in a plan for a substitute?
On this template: the times, each subject, what to do, where the materials are, students who can help, an adult to ask, and a line for the school's drill and dismissal routine, which you write in.
Is there a substitute lesson plan template PDF?
Yes. In the print window, change the printer to Save as PDF. The PDF is the sheet you see, sized for Letter or A4, ready to keep in a sub folder.
Is there a form for the substitute to leave notes?
Yes. Substitute report to the teacher has headings for what the class finished, what it did not get to, students who helped, who was absent or left early, and things that came up.
Does the page tell a substitute what to do in a drill?
No. Fire drill and dismissal is an empty line for your school's own routine. The page gives no safety or supervision advice, and the sample leaves that line empty.
