Four ways to choose
On the appetizer, main course and dessert menu students pick one from each column, and on the tic-tac-toe spelling menu three in a row. The menu with points gives each task 5, 10 or 15 points. The Monday to Thursday menu offers two activities a night.
Menus by grade
The menu for 1st and 2nd grade keeps to saying, writing and making the words. The 5th grade spelling menu is a free printable worksheet for longer words: syllables, base words, definitions, synonyms and parts of speech.
A menu of your own
The two blank menus are typed on in place: the title, the week's words, each box and the lines at the foot.
- The ready-made menus print as they are. To change an activity, start from a blank menu.
Questions and answers
What is a spelling menu?
On this page it is a choice board for spelling practice: a grid of activities, such as writing each word in three colors or sorting the words by syllables, from which students choose a set number.
How do you use a spelling menu for homework?
Write the week's words at the top, then how many activities to do and the due date at the foot, and send a copy home. Students do the activities on notebook paper and hand it in with the menu.
What activities go on a spelling menu?
Ones that work with any list and need little more than paper and a pencil: ABC order, a sentence for each word, look, cover, write, check, five words in a story, a quiz with a partner.
