How this list was compiled: Our own list of 24 ways to practice a spelling word, written for this site in October 2026: eight with a pencil, eight with colors and eight out loud, each with one line that says how to do it. No reading program, scheme or publisher was used, and no task comes with a promise about results. Licence: own work

      How it works

This spelling spinner lands on one way to practice a spelling word: pyramid writing, rainbow write, a robot voice. The wheel opens on eight tasks that need only a pencil. Two more sets use colors or the voice.

      Spin a task

Press Spin the wheel. The task lands with one line that says how to do it. Give it to the class, a table or one child, with any word from this week's list. Show only swaps the set: Pencil only, With colors or Out loud.

      Spin this week's words

Choose My list, type the spelling words, one to a line, and press Spin only mine. Now the wheel picks the word and you pick the task. A list typed here stays in this browser.

      • Spin once for the whole class, or let each table spin for a task of its own.
      • The Out loud tasks need no paper, so they suit a line at the door.
      • Under More options, Take winners off (Elimination) drops each task once it lands, so eight spins give eight different tasks.

      Questions and answers

      What is a spelling spinner?

A wheel you spin to choose how to practice a spelling word, or which word to spell. This one holds ready-made practice tasks, each with a how-to line, and takes a list of your own words under My list.

What tasks are on the wheel?

Pencil only: Pyramid writing, Tiny, then huge, Bubble letters, Hidden words. With colors: Rainbow write, Color the beats, Fancy first. Out loud: Clap it out, Robot voice, Vowels stand up. Every task is listed under the tool with its how-to line.

Can I put my own spelling words on the spinner?

Yes. Choose My list, type one word to a line and press Spin only mine. The words stay in this browser and are not sent anywhere.

Can I print the spelling spinner?

Not as a paper spinner. The wheel is for a screen or the board. Print, under the result, prints the results of your spins and not the wheel.
