One text, one skill
Press Print the lesson plan. Name the text and the skill on the top lines. Under Model, write what you will say as you think aloud; under the two reading blocks, the pages and the task. Three questions go under Talk, and the last block is for who needs another go.
A reading strategy lesson plan template
Teaching a strategy across several texts? The strategy lesson starts by naming it and when readers use it, then moves from your think-aloud to trying it together and trying it alone. Its last block asks how you will know it helped.
- Watching the clock? The table version gives each part of the lesson a Minutes box and a Pages box.
- Staying on one skill all week? The week sheet has Monday to Friday across and a row for each day's text and pages.
- Fluency practice plan tracks three reads of a passage for 8 students.
