How it works

Plan the lesson around the text
Press Print the lesson plan. Write the text on its line, then what happens before, during and after the class reads it. Writing task, Vocabulary and Grammar point each have their own lines below.
An ELA weekly lesson plan template, and a long text
The week sheet runs Monday to Friday with rows for Reading, Writing, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Speaking and listening. For a novel or a play, the reading schedule has 15 dated rows for pages or chapters, a focus and a task.
- The eight-box sheet has a short prompt under each heading, and the sample shows it filled in.
- Words to teach from a text sets each word beside its page and its meaning in that text.
Questions and answers
Is this for English class or for learners of English?
English as a school subject: a text, a writing task, vocabulary and grammar. To plan a lesson that teaches the language itself to new speakers, print the ESL lesson plan template.
What goes in an English lesson plan?
On the opening sheet: an objective, what happens before, during and after reading, a writing task, vocabulary, one grammar point and homework. Other sheets plan a writing workshop and a speaking or debate lesson.
Is the template for English lesson plans free?
Yes. Nothing is charged for any sheet. Each one prints on Letter or A4, blank apart from the sample, and is filled in by hand.
Does it name any books?
No. Text is a blank line on every sheet, and the sample lesson uses an unnamed article about a school garden.
