Keep the sheet away from the class
Press Print the sign up sheet and fill in the class, the teacher and the reading time. Grown-ups pick a date and sign where students will not see the page. The Reader column says in print that the name is a secret from the class.
Clues, reminders and invitations
The clue page has two lines each for Clue 1 to Clue 5, and a smaller slip has three clues. Reminder slips say You are our mystery reader, with Date, Time, Room and Please check in at lines. The invitation asks which dates a grown-up can come.
- For readers the class knows about, the guest reader list drops the secret and adds a Time column.
- The teacher's record has check boxes for Clues in and Thank-you sent.
Questions and answers
What goes on a mystery reader sign up sheet?
A date, the reader's name, whose grown-up they are and the book they plan to bring. The opening sheet has those four columns under lines for the class, the teacher and the reading time.
Is there a mystery reader clue sheet?
Yes. One sheet is a full page with five clues, hardest first, and another prints four slips with three clues each. Both are blank for the reader to fill in.
Can a grandparent or a family friend be the mystery reader?
The sheet does not say who may read. Its third column is headed Whose grown-up, so a parent, a grandparent, an aunt or a family friend fills it in the same way.
Can readers sign up on this page?
No. It prints paper only. A reader signs the printed sheet by hand, and no name or date is kept by the site.
