What prints: 15 capitals, 24 lowercase, dog and duck

At Large (19 mm), 3 rows hold 15 capital D's and 24 lowercase d's on Letter or A4. Page 2 holds dog 9 times and duck 6. Lowercase d is taller: its stick reaches 19 mm, capital D about 17. The first word you type clears all four sample rows. To keep D and d d d d, press them first in Pick from the 82 rows and words.

Choose D words by what the d is doing

Dog, dig and dot start with d and a vowel, the clearest place to hear the sound. In drum and drop the d sits before r, where many speakers say it close to j. Bed, mud and pond end in d. Save the ed words for later in the year.

  • Say it first: round part, then the tall stick. The printed dot sits on the round part.
  • Follow d with a, g and q: all four start at a dot just under the dashed line.

Questions and answers

My child writes d as b. What helps?

Look at where the pencil starts: d begins on its round part, just under the dashed line, and b at the top of its stick. Keep the two apart at first, then trace bed, with letter B at one end and d at the other.

How many pages does the letter D sheet print?

Two, on Letter or A4: D and d on page 1, dog and duck on page 2. With Rows to trace at 1, under More options, all four entries fit on one page. Other letters print the same way.

Why does ed sound like t in jumped?

The ending is always spelled ed but said three ways. After t or d it adds a beat: wanted, needed. After other voiceless sounds such as p and k it says t: jumped, kicked. Everywhere else it is a plain d: played, rained.
