How it works

Print these letter C tracing worksheets, PDF or paper: 3 rows of capital C, 3 of lowercase c, then cat and cup, each with an empty row. Open Pick from the 85 rows and words for 70 C words sorted by what c says.

Read the full guide

Page 1 is C and c, page 2 is cat and cup

At Large (19 mm), 3 rows hold 15 capital C's and 24 lowercase c's on Letter or A4. Page 2 holds cat and cup 9 times each. The two are one shape in two sizes: capital C about 18 mm tall, lowercase c about 12. Your own words replace all four sample rows. To keep C and c c c c, press them first in Pick from the 85 rows and words.

Pick C words by the sound the c makes

Hard c comes first: before a, o and u the c says k (cat, corn, cup), and keeps that sound in cl and cr. Before e, i and y it says s: cent, city, cymbal. Circle and circus hold one of each.

  • Point to the dot before the pencil moves. On both letters it sits at the right, not at the top.
  • Follow c with s: in this letter style both lowercase dots sit at the right, just under the dashed line.

Questions and answers

How do I save these letter C tracing worksheets as a PDF?

Press Print or save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF where the dialog asks for a printer. Paper, Letter or A4, and Rows to trace are under More options. The sheet opens at 2 pages, or 1 with Rows to trace at 1.

Why does c say k in cat but s in city?

The next letter decides. Before e, i or y the c is soft and says s: cent, city, cycle. Before any other letter, or at the end of a word, it is hard and says k: cat, clock, picnic. Teach hard c first.

Do ch words belong on a letter c sheet?

For the pencil, yes: chair and chin hold the same c to trace. For the ear, wait. In ch the two letters make one new sound, which shifts to k in Chloe and sh in Chicago. Pick the next letter from the letter list.
