One word for each color, one for white
Each picture takes one word for each color and one more for the squares left white. The Mummy has 4 colors, so it takes 5 words; the Candy jar and the Flashlight take 6. Start from a list offers Everyday words 1, Everyday words 2 and Halloween words: bat, cat, hat, web, boo, mask, moon, candy, night, treat.
Six sentences to read after coloring
The everyday lists hold the 14 common words of six sentences written for this page: I see a big bat. The cat had a hat. We like the candy. Look at my mask! Can you see the moon? Come and get a treat.
- New picture deals another of the eight at random. More options lists all eight with the words each one takes.
- Words over 8 letters are left out: pumpkin and skeleton fit, scarecrow does not.
Questions and answers
Are these Halloween sight words from a published list?
No. They are our own: 14 everyday words from the six sentences and 10 Halloween words, with no grade levels. If your reading program sets the words, type them in Your words and the sheet uses those.
Where is the answer key?
On page 2 of the printout, as the finished picture in color. The box Answer key on page 2, in More options under the grid, is ticked when the page opens. Untick it to print the worksheet alone.
How many words does one sheet need?
Between 4 and 6. The Costume mask needs 4, the Mummy, the Bunting and the Crow need 5, and the Candy jar and the Flashlight need 6. A longer list is dealt at random.
