Match the sheet to the fabric

Aida cloth is sold by count, the number of squares in one inch. Print the sheet with the same count and a design drawn on it is the size it will stitch. To find a size, divide the stitches by the count: 70 stitches on 14 count is 5 inches. On 28 count fabric with each cross over two threads, use the 14 count sheet, because the stitched size is the same.

Counted cross stitch graph paper, numbered

Two sheets number every tenth line from 0 at the corner, so you can find stitch 40 without counting from the edge. The large squares sheet, 5 to the inch, is not a fabric count: it gives room to color each square when planning a first pattern.

  • Graph paper for cross stitch must print at true size: 14 squares should measure 1 inch. If not, print at 100%, not Fit to page.
  • In More options, thin grey lines stay in the background under colored pencil.
  • A design too big for one sheet? The 11 x 17 sheet is 14 count cross stitch pattern graph paper, 140 squares wide.

Questions and answers

Is there free printable 14 count cross stitch graph paper?

Yes, it is the sheet this page opens on: 100 by 140 squares on Letter or A4, 14 to the inch, with a bold line every 10. Printed at 100% scale, 14 squares measure exactly 1 inch.

How do I draw cross stitch patterns on graph paper?

One square is one stitch. Color each square, or give each thread color a symbol and keep a key of the symbols beside the chart. The bold lines mark every 10 stitches, so a place on the chart is quick to find on the fabric.

How big will my design be when it is stitched?

Divide its stitch count by the fabric count. A design 70 stitches wide is 5 inches on 14 count, about 6.4 inches on 11 count and about 3.9 inches on 18 count. The sheet for each count shows that size as drawn.

Which sheet matches 28 count or 32 count fabric?

Stitched over two threads, 28 count fabric gives the same size as 14 count Aida stitched over one square, so print the 14 count sheet. By the same sum, 32 count over two threads matches the 16 count sheet.
