How it works
This graphing on the coordinate plane worksheet opens with 12 questions on one page: 6 points to read and 6 ordered pairs to plot, on four quadrant grids from −10 to 10. The answer key prints on its own page.

Six tasks, one grid
On the sheet lights Read the coordinates and Plot the points first. For a plotting points on a graph worksheet, leave only Plot the points lit. For a coordinate plane quadrants worksheet, light only Name the quadrant: students write I, II, III or IV, or the axis. Find the missing corner draws three corners of a rectangle, square or parallelogram. Move a point gives steps such as 1 unit left and 4 units up. Picture grid swaps letters for pictures.
Four grids, four lengths
Grid switches between First quadrant and Four quadrants; Axes run to picks 5 or 10. Questions sets 6, 12, 18 or 24. Reading and plotting fit one page at every count; a third task adds one.
- Watch for a swapped pair: (−8, 3) plotted at (3, −8). The key draws every plotted point.
- For graphing x and y axis worksheets with every line numbered, pick 5 under Axes run to.
- Every full Name the quadrant grid has one point on an axis, such as (−5, 0): the answer is x-axis.
Questions and answers
Is there a plotting points on a coordinate plane worksheet PDF?
Yes, through your browser. Press Print or PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print window; there is no download button. Sheet and key become one file, fitted to Letter or A4, and share a 6 character code at the foot.
Is a Cartesian plane worksheet PDF any different?
No. Cartesian plane is another name for the coordinate plane, after René Descartes, so the sheets and the Save as PDF step are the same. The quadrants are numbered I to IV, counterclockwise from the upper right.
What grade is graphing on the coordinate plane?
Grades 5 and 6 in the Common Core. 5.G.1 defines the axes, origin and ordered pair, and 5.G.2 graphs points in the first quadrant; 6.NS.6 adds negative coordinates and 6.NS.8 all four quadrants. Every point is a pair of integers: no fractions or decimals.
Does it fit Year 4 or Year 6 in England?
For Year 4, set Grid to First quadrant: reading, plotting, moves and completing a polygon are tasks. Year 6 uses the opening four quadrant grid, but no task translates or reflects a shape: Move a point slides single points. Wording is American: slide and units.
