Slope and line facts behind every answer key

Show the table

Every line on these sheets goes through grid points with whole-number coordinates, so a slope can be counted off the graph square by square. The key is worked out with whole-number arithmetic and every slope is given in lowest terms.

IdeaWhat it says
Sloperise over run: the change in y divided by the change in x, m = (y₂ − y₁) ÷ (x₂ − x₁)
Slope-intercept formy = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept, the point (0, b) where the line crosses the y-axis
Positive and negativea line that climbs from left to right has a positive slope; one that falls has a negative slope
Zero slopea horizontal line, y = b: it rises by nothing, however far it runs
Undefined slopea vertical line, x = a: its run is 0, and nothing can be divided by 0
From a tablepick any two rows: the difference of the y values over the difference of the x values, in the same order
Standard formAx + By = C. Put y = 0 to find the x-intercept, C ÷ A, and x = 0 to find the y-intercept, C ÷ B
From a point and a slopeput the point into y = mx + b and solve for b: b = y − mx

A short code sits at the foot of every sheet and of its answer key, so loose pages can be matched. The share link rebuilds that sheet, number for number: a key printed next week still fits the copies handed out today.

How it works

This free graphing slope intercept form worksheet has 4 grids, −10 to 10, each with an equation such as y = 4x − 2. Students plot the y-intercept, count the slope and draw the line. Tables of values are one press away.

Graphing an equation worksheet, five ways

Graph from the equation, lit at the start: a graphing lines worksheet, one blank grid per equation. Table of values, then graph: a table and graph worksheet, with five y values to fill in, plot and join. Graph from a point and the slope: a graphing slope worksheet, with prompts like Slope 4, through (4, 7). Graph with the intercepts: standard form, such as 5x + 3y = 15. Write the equation of a line: a slope-intercept form from graph worksheet, drawn line first.

Graphing linear functions worksheet, grade 8

Common Core standard 8.F.3 reads y = mx + b as a linear function whose graph is a straight line. The same document says function notation is not required in grade 8, so these sheets write y, never f(x).

  • A graphing y = mx + b worksheet on −10 to 10 fits 4 grids a page; −6 to 6 fits 9.
  • Zero and undefined slopes adds lines such as y = 3 and x = 2; the key names them horizontal and vertical.
  • For a plotting linear equations worksheet with no slope talk, light only Table of values, then graph.

Questions and answers

How do I get a graphing lines in slope-intercept form worksheet PDF?

Press Print and choose Save as PDF in your browser's print window. The blank grids come first, then the key. On the opening sheet it redraws every grid with its line and names two points, such as Through (0, −2) and (1, 2).

Can it make a graphing linear equations worksheet PDF in standard form?

Yes. Light only Graph with the intercepts. Each problem prints an equation such as 5x + 3y = 15, blanks for both intercepts, and a grid. The key gives (3, 0) and (0, 5).

How does the graphing from a table worksheet pick its x values?

It uses −2 to 2 when those points fit the grid. For a fraction slope it uses multiples of the denominator: y = 1/5x − 8 gets −10, −5, 0, 5 and 10, so every point lands where grid lines cross.

Is there a writing linear equations from graphs worksheet PDF?

Yes. Light only Write the equation of a line. Each grid shows a drawn line through two marked points, with a blank for its equation. The key prints each one, such as y = −2x + 7.
