Questions and answers

What are the twelve gifts in The Twelve Days of Christmas?

A partridge in a pear tree, two turtle doves, three French hens, four calling birds, five gold rings, six geese, seven swans, eight maids, nine ladies, ten lords, eleven pipers and twelve drummers. Each verse adds one gift and repeats the earlier ones.

How many reindeer pull Santa's sleigh?

Eight in the poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, first published in 1823. So 3 sleighs need 24 reindeer and 7 sleighs need 56, which is the 8 times table.

How many of each gift is given in the whole song?

Multiply the gift's number by the days it is sung. Five gold rings come on 8 days, so 40 rings. Six geese on 7 days and seven swans on 6 days make 42 each, the most of any gift.

Is there an xmas times tables game?

This page prints worksheets, not a game. For a game on the same facts, the multiplication bingo page prints a card for each pupil; a story sheet here works as the quiet follow-up.

How this list was compiled: The stories, their wording and the teaching notes are our own work. The numbers are drawn fresh for every sheet and each answer key is worked out from the numbers printed on that sheet. Two things were checked on 2026-09-30. The gifts of the song and their counts (two turtle doves, three French hens, four calling birds, five gold rings, six geese a-laying, seven swans a-swimming, eight maids a-milking, nine ladies dancing, ten lords a-leaping, eleven pipers piping, twelve drummers drumming) are as listed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Twelve_Days_of_Christmas_(song); only the gift names are used, no other line of the song. A Visit from St. Nicholas, first published in 1823, has a sleigh pulled by eight reindeer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Visit_from_St._Nicholas. Eggs, pails, carrots, bells and every other number in a story are invented. Licence: own work
