How it works
This half sheet lined paper printable puts 2 ruled half sheets on one page, split by a dashed cut line. The 18 sheets cover wide, college and narrow rule, name lines, question boxes, numbered spelling test slips and quarter sheets.

Two ways to halve a page
Tall halves come from a page turned sideways and cut down the middle. Landscape halves come from an upright page cut across the middle, with fewer, longer lines. On A4 either cut gives two pieces of A5 size, the same shape as the full page. A Letter half is slimmer than its parent.
Cutting a class set
Each half keeps half an inch clear on all four sides, so both pieces have even margins after the cut. The dashed line sits 5 1/2 inches from each short edge of a Letter page, or 148.5 mm on A4. A class of 28 takes 14 printed pages, or 7 with quarter sheets.
- For a weekly spelling test, print the slip numbered 1 to 20, in two columns of 10.
- Write the prompt in both boxes of one question box sheet, then photocopy that master.
- Tall halves fit a Half Letter mini binder. Its holes sit 2 3/4 inches apart: use an adjustable punch.
Questions and answers
What size is a half sheet of paper?
Half of a Letter page is 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches, a size also called Half Letter, Statement or Memo, and called Invoice by printer makers. Half of an A4 page is 148.5 by 210 mm, which is A5 to within half a millimeter.
How many lines fit on a half sheet?
On a tall half cut from Letter, wide rule gives 21 lines, college rule 26 and narrow rule 30. A name line costs 1 or 2 of them. Landscape halves hold 13 wide ruled or 16 college ruled lines, each 7 1/2 inches long.
Which sheet works best for an exit ticket?
For one written sentence, quarter sheets are enough and save paper. For a short paragraph, take a landscape half with a name line, 11 lines on Letter. For a diagram or a worked problem, pick the question box ticket on tall halves.
