Two ways to get an A5 sheet

The 2 per page sheets turn an A4 page sideways and split it with a dashed line: each half is 148.5 by 210 mm, A5 to within half a millimeter. Every other sheet is one A5 page, for a printer loaded with A5 paper. Set Paper size to the paper in the tray.

Pick the ruling

Lined sheets come at 8 mm, 7 mm and 6 mm, plain or with a red margin, a title line or a name and date line. The dot grid and one squared sheet use 5 mm; the other has 1 cm squares. The list sheets add check boxes or a heading row over two columns.

  • The red margin stands 19 mm in, clear of two-hole filing holes, whose centers sit 12 mm from the edge.

Questions and answers

What size is A5 paper?

A5 is 148 by 210 mm, about 5.8 by 8.3 inches. Each ISO A size is half of the one before it, so an A4 sheet cut or folded across its middle gives two A5 pages.

Can I make A5 paper from a Letter page?

Not with these sheets. Half of a Letter page is 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches, the Half Letter size, 8.3 mm narrower and 5.9 mm taller than A5. With Letter or Half Letter chosen in Paper size, every sheet prints at that size.

What line spacing does A5 lined paper use?

The lined sheets here are ruled at 8 mm, 7 mm or 6 mm. In the UK, ruled paper for adults is most commonly 8 mm and narrow ruling is typically 6 mm. 7 mm is a hair under US college rule.

How many lines fit on an A5 page?

With half an inch clear on every side, 23 lines at 8 mm, 26 at 7 mm and 30 at 6 mm. A title line or a name and date line takes the room of 2 lines.

Is this an A5 paper template I can type on?

No. Each sheet is a ruled page to print and write on by hand, not a document file. To keep one as a file, press Print A5 paper and choose Save as PDF as the printer.

Lined, 1 per page on A5 paper 6

  • A5 lined paper, 6 mm 30 lines on A5, 31 on Half Letter paper. Lines 6 mm apart, the narrowest ruling here, so the most lines on one A5 page.
