What the seven lists hold

List 1 is the day in ten words: veteran, service, salute, honor, eleventh. Level 1, for kindergarten and 1st grade, has short words (thank, card, flag) and the school assembly (letter, poster). Level 2, for 2nd to 4th grade, has compound words (homecoming, peacetime) and what service takes (courage, duty). Level 3, for 5th grade and up, has ranks (sergeant, admiral) and the history (armistice, allegiance). Move a speller up or down.

One capital, six sound-alikes

November is marked wrong in lower case while Capitals count is checked; uncheck it under More options for younger spellers. Six words sound like another: peace (piece), band (banned), guest (guessed), medal (meddle), pride (pried) and colonel (kernel). Type the other spelling and the results show the sentence.

  • Colonel is said with an r because an older English spelling was coronel.
  • Lieutenant is two French words: lieu, place, and tenant, holding.
