How it works
These color by letter spring worksheets open on a Hyacinth with Rr, Aa, Ii and Nn in its squares, the letters of rain. Eight spring pictures and eight letter lists print on Letter or A4 with a key.

A capital and a small letter in every square
A square holds a pair such as Rr and the key gives the pair one color, so a child reads both forms of a letter each time. Every picture has 3 colors, so a sheet takes 4 pairs: one for each color and one for the white squares.
Eight lists spelled from spring words
The lists are the letters of rain, spring, plant, sprout, frog, pond, robin and duck: 16 letters between them. In rain, no small letter looks like its capital. In duck, U, C and K keep their shape and only D changes, so start there with a class new to small letters.
- The Hopscotch is made of big blocks of one pair. The Blossom branch hides one pair in only 5 green squares at 12 by 12.
- Spring and sprout have 6 letters, so each sheet takes 4 of the 6 pairs and Shuffle the letters deals another 4.
- For capitals alone, type R A I N in the Your letters box. They print as typed.
Questions and answers
Can a capital and its small letter have different colors?
No. B and b count as one letter here, so the second one typed is left out as a repeat. That is why these sheets print the two together as Bb, with one color for the pair.
Which spring sheet is easiest for preschool or kindergarten?
The Blossom branch has the fewest squares to color at 12 by 12, 63, where the Greenhouse has 114. Print it with the duck list.
Can I use my own letters on a spring picture?
Yes. Type them in the Your letters box with spaces between: single letters, pairs such as Tt, or two-letter sounds such as sh. Four entries fill any picture here. Typed letters stay in this browser.
