A pattern worksheet in five kinds
Under More options, Kind of sheet changes the rule. AB patterns take turns: moon, star. AAB patterns repeat the first picture twice and ABB patterns the second. ABC patterns use three pictures in order. A mix of patterns puts different rules on one sheet.
Draw it, or cut and paste it
Answer by starts on Pencil only. Cut and paste prints the missing pictures as tiles to cut out and paste into the empty boxes. Rows sets 4, 5, 6 or 8 rows a sheet by pencil, up to 6 with Cut and paste.
- The pictures are plain outlines, some of them shapes such as circles, triangles and stars, so every sheet prints in black and white.
- Have the child say the row aloud, moon, star, moon, star, before drawing.
Questions and answers
What is an AB pattern?
Two things that take turns: moon, star, moon, star. An AAB pattern repeats the first one twice (moon, moon, star), an ABB pattern repeats the second, and an ABC pattern uses three things in the same order each time.
Are these patterns in shapes worksheets?
Partly. The rows mix simple shapes, such as a circle, a triangle and a star, with small pictures such as a moon, a leaf and a fish. All are outlines a child can copy.
Is there an answer key for a patterning worksheet?
Yes. Under More options, press See the answers. It also prints last unless you untick Add an answer key as the last page. The key shows each row with its empty boxes filled in.
