Print the October sheet
Press Print the reading log for the kindergarten to grade 2 sheet. For older readers, open the Sheet menu and pick grades 3 to 6, where the prompts include a detective story with clues to follow. The child writes a minutes goal on the line that begins In October I will read.
31 rows for 31 days
October has 31 days, so the dated log in the Sheet menu prints 1 to 31 down its first column and the tracker has 31 boxes to color. No sheet prints a year or a weekday, so it works every October.
- The prompts can be done in any order. A picture book read aloud by an adult counts on the kindergarten to grade 2 sheet.
Questions and answers
What are the October reading challenge prompts?
Kindergarten to grade 2 gets 12, among them a story that is a little bit spooky, a book about bats and a story with a friendly monster. Grades 3 to 6 get 12 more, such as a book about the phases of the moon.
Is the October reading log tied to a holiday?
No. The prompts are about fall and things that are a little bit spooky: bats, owls, spiders, pumpkins and costumes. No holiday is named on any sheet, so it suits a class where families keep different ones.
How many days does the October reading log cover?
All 31. The dated log has one row for each date from 1 to 31, and the tracker has one numbered box for each. The challenge sheets have 12 rows, one for each prompt.
Can the same October reading log be used every year?
Yes. Nothing on it names a year or a weekday. The dates are plain numbers, and the prompts are about leaves, pumpkins, owls and dark evenings, which come round each fall.
