How it works
This December reading log opens on 12 winter prompts for kindergarten to grade 2, such as a book about snow and reading under a warm blanket. Each prompt has a box for the date, the book title and the minutes read.

Print it before the break
Press Print the reading log for the kindergarten to grade 2 sheet, or choose grades 3 to 6 in the Sheet menu. Prompts there include a story set in the Arctic or Antarctic and a book saved for the first day of break. A blank goal line names December.
The whole month, school days or not
December has 31 days, and a school break often takes some of them. The dated log prints every date from 1 to 31, so reading at home on a day off still gets its row. The tracker has 31 boxes to color.
- The by week sheet suits a month cut short by a break: 3 prompts a week, and the last week can be done at home.
Questions and answers
Does the December reading log name a holiday?
No. One prompt for kindergarten to grade 2 asks for a winter holiday story your family picks, and the family chooses which. The other prompts are about snow, cold places, giving and long dark evenings.
When is the longest night of the year?
In the northern half of the world it is the December solstice, the day with the least daylight. It usually falls on December 21, and at most a day either side. One prompt for grades 3 to 6 asks for reading after sunset that night.
What are the December reading prompts?
Kindergarten to grade 2 has 12, such as a book about penguins or polar bears, a story about giving and a story about mittens, hats or boots. Grades 3 to 6 have 12 more, such as a book about the northern lights.
Can this December reading log be reused next year?
Yes. It prints the dates 1 to 31 and no year or weekday, so nothing on it goes out of date.
