Add the names in your own family
Type first names or surnames at the end of the word list under the grid, one at a time. Only the letters A to Z go into the grid, so O'Brien is hidden as OBRIEN. For a reunion, press New puzzle between prints and each table gets a different grid with its own key.
For a families unit or Grandparents Day
Relatives holds 34 words, so each child can find the people in their own home. Family Tree adds 22 for a heritage project, among them Ancestor, from the Latin for one who goes before. In the United States, National Grandparents Day is the first Sunday after Labor Day. For older guests, open More options and tick Large print.
- Niece, Daughter and Cupboard carry spelling hints in their clues: i before e, a silent gh, a silent p.
- Heirloom ends in an old word for a tool: a tool left to an heir.
Questions and answers
Why is Grandmother missing from the Relatives list?
Mother sits inside Grandmother, so a grid holding both would show Mother twice. The lists use Grandma, Grandpa, Granny and Nana instead. You can still add Grandmother, Stepdad or any other family word at the end of the word list, and the grid will hide it.
Where do the family names I type go?
They stay on your device. The puzzle is built in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us.
Does the list fit every kind of family?
It aims to. Relatives includes Guardian, Foster, Adoption, Blended, Partner and Spouse beside Mother and Father, and no clue treats one kind of household as the usual one. A missing word, such as Stepmom or Godfather, can be added at the end of the word list.
