Pack a few sheets for the trip

Start from a list has a list for each ride. Road Trip has 19 words a child can spot through the window, such as Billboard, Tunnel and Overlook. At the Airport has 19 for the wait at the gate, from Carousel to Layover. Press New puzzle before each copy so brothers and sisters cannot share answers. With no printer, a child can solve it on a phone: tap a word's first letter, then its last.

For a transportation or map skills unit

Around the World holds 20 map words, among them Equator, Hemisphere, Longitude and Meridian. The clues add dates: the prime meridian through Greenwich in London was chosen as the world standard in 1884. Trains, Ships and Buses suits a transportation unit in the younger grades.

  • Altitude and Latitude are built from the same 8 letters, and both sit in Long and Tricky.
  • A runway's number is a compass heading: 09 points east and 27 points west.

Questions and answers

Is there an airplane word search printable?

Yes. Pick the Airplane list: 22 words from Airplane to Contrail. The clue for Airplane carries a date, December 17, 1903, when the Wright brothers made the first powered flight near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. It lasted 12 seconds.

Can I save the travel word search as a PDF?

Yes. Press Print or save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF in the print dialog. The file has two pages on Letter or A4: the puzzle with a name and date line, then the answer key.

Why is Plane missing from the Airplane list?

Plane sits inside Airplane and Biplane, so a grid holding both would give one run of letters two right answers. The same rule leaves out Port, Boat and Tour, and Kayak reads the same both ways. You can type them at the end of the word list under the grid.
