How it works
This ESL lesson plan template opens on one lesson: lines for Class or level, Date and Length, then ruled blocks for a language goal, target words and phrases, a warm-up, presentation, practice, production, and a wrap-up.

Plan the three stages
Press Print the lesson plan. Under Language goal, write the one thing learners will be able to say or write. Presentation is where you show the new language, Practice is controlled, and Production is free practice in the learners' own words.
A stage table, skills lessons and tutoring
The stage table has a Minutes column and sets what the teacher does beside what learners do. Other sheets plan a reading or listening lesson, a conversation class, a week by skill and a lesson for one learner.
- Teaching math or science to English learners? One sheet has a Content objective, a Language objective and a Supports block.
- The table with your own stages has 7 unnamed rows, for a lesson that runs in another order.
Questions and answers
What does an ESL lesson plan include?
This one has a language goal, the target words and phrases, a warm-up, three stages (presentation, practice and production) and a wrap-up with homework. The sample sheet shows a made-up beginner lesson on there is and there are.
What is presentation, practice, production?
It is a common three-stage order for a language lesson: the teacher presents new language, learners practice it in a controlled task, then they produce it more freely. The opening sheet gives each stage three ruled lines.
Is the ESL lesson plan template free?
Yes. Every sheet prints from this page at no cost, on Letter or A4. Apart from the one marked Sample, a sheet comes out empty and is filled in by hand.
Does it work for one-to-one lessons?
Yes. The tutoring plan has Learner and Lesson number lines and blocks for the learner's goal, a review of last time, new language, practice, a speaking task and homework.
