T chart or 2 column chart

A T chart is one line across and one line down, with no rows: two open lists. A 2 column table chart adds row lines, so each entry on the left sits beside its partner on the right, such as a cause beside its effect.

  • Count your headings first, then pick that many columns. Six columns print sideways so each one stays wide enough to write in.
  • On a math T chart, leave the rule line empty until pupils have found the pattern in the In and Out columns.

Questions and answers

What is a 4 column chart used for?

Sorting notes under four headings. Common ones: a KWHL chart before research, a vocabulary prediction chart before reading, who, what, when and where for a news story, or a narrow feature column beside three things to compare.

How do you fill in a T chart for advantages and disadvantages?

Write the choice on the topic line, such as getting a class pet. List each advantage on the left and each disadvantage on the right, one idea a line, then weigh the two lists. The class pet sample shows one finished.

What is a KWL chart?

A chart with three columns: what I Know, what I Want to know and what I Learned. Pupils fill the first two before reading and the third after. Donna Ogle introduced it in 1986. The KWHL chart adds How I will find out.

What is a math T chart?

A narrow two-column table for a number pattern. Inputs go down the left, outputs down the right, and the rule that links them goes on the line above, such as multiply by 3. The x and y version holds points to plot on graph paper.

Is there an ABC chart for behaviour?

Yes. The ABC behavior chart is an empty record with four columns: date and time, A for antecedent (what happened before), B for the behavior, and C for the consequence (what happened after). It is a blank form only.
