How it works

This online 2 hour timer opens set to 120 minutes and stopped. The whole disc is the 2 hours: half of it is an hour and a quarter is 30 minutes.

Set a timer for 2 hours

1. Press Start the timer. The digits read 2 h 00 min and count in whole minutes, rounded up. 2. Press Full screen on the timer. 3. For the last 10 minutes the disc changes color inside a dashed ring.

A 120 minute timer split into session plans

Every plan under Ready-made routines sums to 120 minutes and shows a cue at each new part. Play rehearsal is 10 + 40 + 10 + 40 + 20, so act two starts exactly at halfway. Two papers with a break is 55 + 10 + 55.

  • Plug the laptop in: a browser can let the screen sleep when the battery is low or battery saver is on.

Questions and answers

What time will it be in 2 hours?

Press Start the timer and the line under the digits answers: Ends at, then the clock time 2 hours from now. It is worked from your device's clock, so check that the clock is right.

Can I set a 2 hour alarm?

Yes. Press Sound: off by Start the timer and a soft chime rings when the 2 hours end. Two more are checkboxes under More options: Chime at halfway, with 1 hour left, and Chime at 10:00.

Is the 2 hour countdown still right if I switch tabs?

Yes. The time left comes from the device clock, so a hidden tab or a sleeping laptop cannot make it drift, though a cue may show late. Changing tabs leaves full screen, so press Full screen again.

How do I set a timer for 7200 seconds?

It is this timer: 7,200 seconds is 120 minutes, or 2 hours. For another length, tap the time and type the minutes: 90 gives 1 h 30 min. The longest this page runs is 3 hours.

Can I use this timer for an official exam?

No. It is a classroom aid; an official exam follows the clock and rules your exam board sets. For a practice paper, copy the finish time shown under the digits onto the board, in case the screen goes dark.

All 18 session plans

Practice papers and long writing 4

  • Full practice paper One paper worked in silence for the whole 2 hours. Copy the finish time from the Ends at line onto the board before you sit down. Cues mark halfway, 30 minutes, 10 minutes and 5 minutes left, so nobody has to break the silence to say so. Cues: 1:00:00 Halfway: 1 hour left; 30:00 30 minutes left; 10:00 10 minutes left; 5:00 5 minutes: finish and check.
  • Long write from plan to final copy Plan for 15 minutes, draft for 50, stretch for 5, revise and edit for 30, then write the final copy in the last 20: 15 + 50 + 5 + 30 + 20 = 120. The draft stops with 55 min left, and the final copy starts at 20 min. Cues: 1:45:00 Planning over. Start your draft; 55:00 Stop. Stretch for 5 minutes; 50:00 Reread, revise and edit; 20:00 Begin your final copy.
  • Three essay paper Three essay questions at 40 minutes each, since 3 x 40 = 120. The cues say when to move on, because the hard part of a three essay paper is leaving an essay you could still improve. The last 5 minutes are for rereading. Cues: 1:20:00 Move on to essay 2; 40:00 Move on to essay 3; 5:00 Finish your sentence and reread.
  • Two papers with a break Paper one runs for 55 minutes, a 10 minute break follows, and paper two takes the last 55: 55 + 10 + 55 = 120. Collect paper one during the break. Each paper gets its own 10 minute warning, at 1 h 15 min left and at 10 min left. Cues: 1:15:00 Paper one: 10 minutes left; 1:05:00 Pens down. 10 minute break; 55:00 Paper two: begin; 10:00 Paper two: 10 minutes left.

How this list was compiled: Own work, written for this page from common school, club and homeschool practice. Each plan is one way to spend exactly 2 hours (120 minutes, 7,200 seconds), and each cue is given as the time left on the countdown when it appears. Every split was added up twice, in minutes and again in seconds: for example Play rehearsal is 10 + 40 + 10 + 40 + 20 = 120 minutes, with cues at 6,600, 4,200, 3,600 and 1,200 seconds left. Two facts were checked on 2026-09-19. Round robin counts (an even field of n teams needs n - 1 rounds of n/2 games, n(n - 1)/2 games in all, so 8 teams play 7 rounds of 4 games, 28 games): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round-robin_tournament . The Sun appears to move about 15 degrees an hour: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundial . The timings are suggestions, not rules or research findings. Change them to suit your group. Licence: own work
