Every sheet comes with its key: the 2s shuffled or in order, doubles, pairs of shoes and halving.

40 problems. 2 times table shuffled. Sheet 650FTI, with its answer key.

How it works

These multiplication by 2 worksheets open on 40 shuffled facts from 2 × 1 to 12 × 2, each with a key. Make a new sheet deals another set; Sheet type holds the 2s in order, doubles, pairs and halving.

Doubles, pairs and wheels

Doubles: double 8 is __ asks both ways round: double 8 is 16, and 16 is double 8. Pairs of shoes and bike wheels put the same facts in a story, so 7 pairs make 14 shoes and 14 wheels fit 7 bikes.

Counting and halving

Count on in 2s from an even number gives three numbers and asks for five more; Count back in 2s runs downhill. Divide by 2: halving reads each double backwards, 18 ÷ 2 = 9. Each 2 times table worksheet prints its own key.

  • Start the 2 times table practice sheets with doubles the pupil already knows from adding, such as 6 + 6.

Questions and answers

When do children learn the 2 times table?

It is usually the first. England's curriculum has Year 1 count in 2s and Year 2 recall the 2, 5 and 10 tables. The Common Core has Grade 2 work with equal groups and odd and even numbers.

Is there a sheet with 2 multiplication worksheets and the 4s together?

Yes: 2s and 4s mixed shuffles both tables on one page. Every 4s answer is a 2s answer doubled, so 4 × 6 = 24 is double 12.

Which multiplication worksheets 2 times tables pupils find hardest?

Usually the halving sheet and counting back, because both run the facts in reverse. 2 × two-digit numbers is the stretch: double the tens, double the ones, add.

The 2 times table 5

  • 2 times table in order 2 × 0 up to 2 × 12 in order, then the same facts shuffled below. Every answer is an even number.
  • 2 times table shuffled 40 facts from 2 × 1 to 12 × 2 in a new order each time, with the 2 first or second.
  • 2 times table stacked The same facts written one above the other, the way column sums are set out.
  • 2 times table up to 2 × 10 Stops at 2 × 10 = 20, for classes that learn the 2s to ten first.
  • One-minute drill on the 2s 30 facts and a line for the time. Set a timer for one minute and see how far a pupil gets.

Doubles, pairs and wheels 3

  • Bike wheels: 9 bikes have __ wheels 9 bikes have 18 wheels, and 18 wheels fit 9 bikes: a story for 2 × 9 and 18 ÷ 2.
  • Doubles: double 8 is __ Double 8 is 16, and 16 is double 8. Times 2 and doubling are the same thing.
  • Pairs of shoes: 6 pairs make __ shoes 6 pairs of shoes make 12 shoes. Half the lines turn round: 14 shoes make 7 pairs.

Counting in 2s 2

  • Count back in 2s 50, 48, 46, 44: the same rows running down, which is harder for most pupils than counting up.
  • Count on in 2s from an even number 36, 38, 40, 42: each row starts on an even number and gives the first three, and the pupil writes the next five.

Missing numbers and halving 3

  • Divide by 2: halving 14 ÷ 2 = 7. Dividing by 2 is halving, the double read backwards.
  • Fact families with 2: 2, 8 and 16 2 × 8 = 16, 8 × 2 = 16, 16 ÷ 2 = 8 and 16 ÷ 8 = 2: four facts from three numbers.
  • Missing factor: 2 × __ = 18 2 × 9 = 18, so the gap holds 9. A missing factor is a division in disguise.

Mixed tables and bigger numbers 3

  • 2 × two-digit numbers: 2 × 34 = 68 Double the tens and double the ones: 2 × 34 = 60 + 8 = 68.
  • 2s and 4s mixed 2 × 6 = 12 and 4 × 6 = 24: every 4s answer is a 2s answer doubled.
  • 2s, 5s and 10s mixed The three tables pupils in England learn together in Year 2, shuffled on one sheet.
