How it works
This math measurement chart sets customary units on the left and metric units on the right: 12 inches in a foot, 16 ounces in a pound, 1,000 meters in a kilometer. Every line was checked against the tables NIST publishes.

Print the chart
Press Print the chart. It prints on one page, on Letter or A4. Fuller charts of the customary units, the metric prefixes, the abbreviations and the units of time are sheets of their own.
Customary and metric side by side
One sheet sets the two systems against each other: 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters, 1 kilogram = 2.205 pounds, 1 gallon = 3.785 liters. Three of its values are exact, and the sheet says which.
What the metric prefixes mean
The prefix says how many of the unit: kilo is 1,000, hecto 100, deka 10, deci a tenth, centi a hundredth and milli a thousandth. So a centimeter is a hundredth of a meter.
- For a measurement chart for math practice, the fill-in sheets leave the numbers out. The filled charts are the answer sheets.
Questions and answers
How many cups are in a gallon?
16. A gallon is 4 quarts, a quart is 2 pints and a pint is 2 cups, so 4 × 2 × 2 = 16 cups. That is 128 fluid ounces.
How many feet are in a mile?
5,280 feet. A mile is also 1,760 yards, because a yard is 3 feet, and 63,360 inches.
What is the difference between customary and metric units?
U.S. customary units are inches, feet, pounds, cups and gallons, each with its own number to remember. Metric units are meters, grams and liters, which go up and down in tens.
How many centimeters are in an inch?
Exactly 2.54. So a foot is exactly 30.48 centimeters and a yard is exactly 0.9144 meter. A meter is about 39.37 inches, a little longer than a yard.
How many ounces are in a pound?
16 ounces, and a ton is 2,000 pounds. Fluid ounces are another unit: they measure capacity, 8 to a cup and 16 to a pint.
