How this list was compiled: 362 clues written for this site: 185 vocabulary clues and 177 number-fill clues whose answers are written in digits. Every number answer was worked in exact whole-number arithmetic, every plain arithmetic clue was worked a second time from its printed text, and no number answer is used twice. Definitions and customary units follow United States school usage. Measurement facts were checked against English Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org) in September 2026. Licence: own work

How it works

These math crossword puzzles, printable on Letter or A4, come in two kinds. Six sets are vocabulary crosswords with word answers such as Perimeter. Three Number Fill sets make the clue 7 × 8 and the answer 56.

Six word sets and three number sets

Easy Math Words holds 50 short answers such as Sum, Dozen, Cone and Dime. Five themed sets run from numbers and operations through fractions, geometry and measurement to pre-algebra. Number Fill: Times Tables has every product of the 2 to 12 tables from 14 to 144, then facts such as 8 × 70 and 9 × 600.

Every answer computed, every unit checked

Each number answer was worked out in exact arithmetic, and no number is used twice, so 6 + 4 × 50 and (6 + 4) × 50 lead to different squares. Unit clues use United States customary measures: 5,280 feet in a mile, 2,000 pounds in a ton.

  • For fact practice, pick Number Fill: Times Tables and press New puzzle for each table group, so neighbors solve different problems.
  • A digit never crosses a letter, so every puzzle is all words or all numbers. For numbers, pick one set, not All.

Questions and answers

What is a number fill math crossword?

Each clue is a problem, such as 1,000 − 382, and the answer goes in the grid one digit to a square, without the comma. Crossing answers share a digit, so a slip in one problem shows up when the other will not fit.

Which worksheet set fits which grade?

Easy Math Words and Number Fill: Times Tables suit grades 2 to 4. Fractions and Decimals, Geometry, and Measurement and Data suit grades 3 to 6. Pre-Algebra, with Coefficient and Slope, suits grades 6 to 8. These bands are our judgement, not a published standard.

Do number fill puzzles print with an answer key?

Yes, on the last page. Number Fill puzzles nearly always fit 2 pages, even at 20 clues. A 20-word vocabulary puzzle, or a word bank, can need a third. Both are set in More options, and the line that starts "Print gives" says how many.
