How it works
This mastery learning lesson plan template opens with a line that reads Mastery is blank out of blank, then ruled blocks for First teaching, Check 1, Help for students not there yet, Extension for students who are, and Check 2.

Teach, check, then two paths
Press Print the lesson plan. Set the mark first, then plan the first teaching and the check that follows it. After Check 1 the plan splits: help for students who missed the mark, extension for those who met it. Check 2 is a second task of the same kind.
Track it
The class tracker has a row for each of 20 students with both checks and the help given. A checklist follows ten objectives through a unit, and a progress sheet lets a student record a first try and a second try.
- The re-teaching sheet lists what students missed, who missed it, and how you will teach it again.
- The boxed plan sets Help and Extension side by side.
Questions and answers
What is a mastery learning lesson plan?
A plan in which students are taught, checked, and then given more help or an extension before a second check. The sheet follows that order and leaves the mastery mark blank.
What score counts as mastery?
The template does not say. The first line has two blanks for you to fill in, and the sample sets 8 out of 10 for one made-up check.
Is there a tracker for the whole class?
Yes. Class mastery tracker has 20 rows with columns for Student, Check 1, Help given and Check 2, and a box to check when the mark is met.
Is there a sheet students fill in?
Yes. My progress sheet has a Name line, a goal line with two blanks, and eight rows for what the student is learning, a first try, what they practiced and a second try.
