Together first, then each grade

On the Together lines, list what both grades share, such as a read aloud. In each subject row, write under each grade who meets with you first and what the other grade does meanwhile. The line at the foot is for a grade that finishes early.

A 2nd and 3rd grade split classroom lesson plan template

One sheet has its columns headed 2nd grade and 3rd grade and plans the day by time, with a Together column for the shared parts. On the opening sheet the columns say Younger grade and Older grade, for any two grades.

  • For one subject taught to each grade in turn, the lesson in turns sheet tracks who is with you and what the other grade does.
  • The work list prints two to a page: one for each grade to follow while you teach the other.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between a split class and a multi-age class?

Both have pupils of more than one grade. A multi-age class is formed by a school's choice. A split class is made when one class cannot hold all the students but there are too few for two of the same grade.

Is the 2nd and 3rd grade split classroom lesson plan template free?

Yes. Every sheet prints at no cost. The split class sheet has seven rows by time, and the sample shows a day for second and third graders.

Is there a multi grade classroom lesson plan template?

Yes. The three-grade sheet prints sideways with a column for the youngest, middle and oldest grade, rows for reading, writing, math, and science or social studies, and a Together line above.

What does the sample combo class lesson plan show?

A made-up day: second graders meet the teacher first in reading, third graders first in math. In writing both grades use one picture: one labels it and the other drafts a paragraph about it.
