Sound

On a phone or a tablet the silent switch mutes this sound as well, and the page cannot tell. Press Test sound to check.

Music

It plays while the timer runs and stops at the end.

Repeat starts the countdown again by itself, for stations.

Keys: Space starts and pauses, R resets, F is full screen. They rest while a button or a field has the focus.

How it works

This one minute timer online shows 60, not 1:00, and counts down in bare seconds while a bar empties to the left. Repeat, under More options, starts the next minute by itself for stations.

A 60 second timer read on a bar

The bar is the whole minute, so half the bar is 30 seconds and a tenth of it is 6. The seconds show bare, as 42 and not 0:42, which is easier to call out. The minus and the plus under the bar take off or add 10 seconds, also while it runs.

Set a timer for 1 minute, round after round

Switch on Repeat before you start. Each round is counted from the end of the last one, so 10 rounds of Circuit stations take exactly 10 minutes, and its cue, Stop. Walk to the next station, comes back at 15 seconds every time.

  • Keep this tab in front during rounds: browsers slow hidden tabs, and a late cue misses its moment.

Questions and answers

Why does the 1 min timer show 60 and not 1:00?

In a 1 minute countdown the seconds are the whole story, so the page shows them bare: 60, 59, 58. With time added past 99 seconds it shows minutes and seconds, then bare seconds again for the last minute.

Is there a 1 minute timer with music for kids?

This one. Tidy-up, in the Music list, bounces and gets faster for the last 20 seconds, which fits Line up by the door and Carpet to desks. Drift, Meadow and Lantern keep one pace throughout.

Can the 1 minute classroom timer ring an alarm at the end?

Yes. Open More options and choose Soft chime, Hand bell or Wood block for When the time is up; Test sound plays it once. On a phone the silent switch mutes it too.

How do I stop the 60 second countdown repeating?

Press Pause. To finish the round you are in instead, pause, press Repeat again under More options, then Resume: the timer stops at the end of that round. Repeat is off whenever the page opens.

Transitions 4

  • Carpet to desks Pupils walk from the carpet to their seats and get one thing out. At 15 seconds the cue asks for a pencil in every hand. Cues: 0:15 Pencil in your hand.
  • Hand out the papers Helpers pass one sheet to every desk before the bar is gone. At 10 seconds everyone writes their name at the top. Cues: 0:10 Name on your sheet.
  • Line up by the door Chairs in, then a quiet line in the usual order. At 20 seconds the cue says the line should be forming. The class races the bar, not each other: everyone ready before it is gone. Cues: 0:20 Chairs in. Join the line.
  • Swap the books Last lesson's books go away and the next ones come out. At 30 seconds the first half of the job should be done, and the cue says so. Cues: 0:30 Old books away. New books out.

Counts and challenges 6

  • Beat the minute challenge One small task done before the bar is gone, such as stacking ten cups into a pyramid and back into one pile. At 10 seconds the class counts down aloud. Cues: 0:10 Count down together.
  • Estimate a minute Pupils close their eyes at Start and raise a hand when they think a minute has passed. You watch the seconds and see who is closest. Leave the sound off for this one.
  • Jumping jack count Count jumping jacks for the whole minute. At 30 seconds the cue marks halfway, so pupils can pace themselves. The total is already a rate per minute. Cues: 0:30 Halfway. Keep your pace.
  • Minute math facts How many facts can you answer in one minute? The digits view fills the screen with the seconds. At 10 seconds the cue says to finish the fact you are on. Write the score at the top and try to beat your own tomorrow. Cues: 0:10 Finish the fact you are on.
  • Pulse count Find your pulse at the wrist with two fingers, not the thumb, which has a strong pulse of its own. Count the beats from Start until the screen says Time is up. Heart rate is measured in beats per minute, so the count is the answer. Count again after a minute of jumping jacks and compare.
  • Reading rate check A pupil reads aloud for one minute while a partner follows the text. Mark the last word read when the time is up and count the words. That count is words per minute, with nothing to divide.

Talking, thinking and listening 4

  • Minute of listening Everyone sits still with eyes closed and listens. When the time is up, pupils name every sound they heard. Choose the Soft chime first, so closed eyes know when the minute ends.
  • One minute talk One pupil talks on a topic for a full minute without stopping. At 15 seconds the cue says to wrap up. Draw the next speaker at random. Cues: 0:15 Wrap up your point.
  • Partner retell in a minute Partner A retells the lesson so far for 30 seconds. At the cue, partner B adds whatever was missed for the other 30. Cues: 0:30 Swap: partner B adds more.
  • Silent think time Ask a hard question, press Start, and nobody answers until the time is up. The disc-only view hides the digits, so nobody counts down instead of thinking.

Rounds: switch on Repeat under More options 4

  • Around the room review Press Repeat. One review question is taped to each group of desks. Pairs answer it on their sheet and move one group along when the round ends. At 10 seconds the cue says to write the answer down. Cues: 0:10 Write your answer down.
  • Circuit stations Press Repeat. Each round is 45 seconds of exercise and 15 seconds to walk to the next station, and the next round starts by itself. Ten rounds take exactly 10 minutes. Cues: 0:15 Stop. Walk to the next station.
  • Pass the paper story Press Repeat. Everyone writes the next sentence of a story for one round, then passes the paper to the right when the round ends. At 10 seconds the cue says to end the sentence. Cues: 0:10 End your sentence now.
  • Speed partners Press Repeat. Pupils sit in two facing rows and quiz each other from flash cards. At 30 seconds they swap who asks. When the round ends, one row moves along by one seat. Cues: 0:30 Swap who asks.

How this list was compiled: Own work, written on 2026-09-19 from common classroom practice. Each routine is one way to spend exactly 1 minute (60 seconds) with a class, and each cue is given as the seconds left when it appears. Two definitions were checked on 2026-09-19: heart rate is how many times the heart contracts in a minute, in beats per minute, and the pulse is felt with the index and middle fingers, not the thumb, whose own strong pulse may interfere (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_rate); reading speed is commonly measured in words per minute (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Words_per_minute). That is why a count made over exactly 60 seconds is already a rate per minute. The splits were added up twice: Circuit stations is 45 + 15 = 60 seconds, and 10 rounds of 60 seconds are 600 seconds, which is 10 minutes; Partner retell in a minute is 30 + 30 = 60. Pulse count is a science activity, not a health check. The timings are suggestions, not rules or research findings. Change them to suit your class. Licence: own work
