Why the teens get their own sheets
Fourteen sounds like four comes first, and eleven and twelve sound like nothing at all. Full frame and a part frame: write the number, 11 to 20 shows every teen number as a full ten with some left over, which is where Common Core starts place value. Fives and some more: how many, 11 to 20? does the same with rows of five things.
Counting sheets to 20, then the order
Once the teens are steady, How many in all? Any number from 1 to 20, set out in fives mixes small and large numbers on one page. The last group has no pictures: the pupil writes the number that follows, fills gaps from 11 to 20, and sorts three numbers from least to greatest.
- Have the child ring the first ten with a pencil, then count on from ten.
- Say the number aloud after writing it. Reading 12 as 'twenty-one' shows up at once.
Questions and answers
Are these counting worksheets for kindergarten 1 20, or for first grade?
Kindergarten. Common Core asks kindergartners to count as many as 20 things set out in rows, to write the numbers 0 to 20, and to see 11 to 19 as ten ones and some more. The grade is a guide only.
Is the answer key included?
Yes. The key prints as the last page, with the same pictures and every number filled in. To print the sheet alone, untick Answer key before you press Print.
Do all the 1 20 worksheets here use pictures?
Most do: ten frames, rows of five, and ten of one thing with some of another. The rest are rows of numbers to finish or to sort, for children who no longer need to count things.
Where are the number words eleven to twenty?
Not on these sheets, which use numerals only. For writing the numerals themselves, the number tracing 1 to 20 page prints each one with dotted lines to trace.
