How it works
This sight word scramble opens on ten kindergarten words of three letters, such as the, she and was. Under each mix is a sentence with a gap the word fills, and a word bank stands at the foot.

Three lists by grade
Kindergarten is 16 three-letter words: the, and, you, was, are, one. First grade has four letters: said, they, what, have, from, were. Second grade runs from five to seven letters: where, could, there, because, friend. A sheet takes ten words from its list, and New scramble deals another ten.
A sight word unscramble with a sentence
Each sentence is our own, such as I see ___ cat. The child sorts the letters, finds the word in the bank and reads the sentence with the word in it. The letters print in lower case, the way the words look in a book.
- No two words here share the same letters: was is listed and saw is not, so each mix matches one bank word.
- Two-letter words such as to, is and my are left out: a two-letter mix is only the word backwards.
Questions and answers
Is there a sight word scramble worksheet for kindergarten?
Yes, and the page opens on it: ten of 16 three-letter words such as and, can, see and she, with a word bank under them. Print gives the sheet and then the answer key, on Letter or A4 paper.
Which second grade sight words are there to unscramble?
Sixteen: where, could, would, there, their, which, about, other, because, people, before, little, friend, always, again and every. Pick Second grade under Start from a list. The grade names are our own split by word length and follow no published list.
How do I help a class unscramble sight words?
Read the word bank aloud first. Then pupils count the letters of a mix, find a bank word of that length and cross it off. The sentence under the mix is the check: the word has to make sense in the gap.
Can I scramble my own sight words?
Yes. Type over any word on the sheet, or paste this week's list into the last line, one word to a line. The mix follows as you type, and your words are kept in this browser.
