How this list was compiled: Written for this page. In the first set each blank takes a possessive pronoun, and the three choices are forms of one pronoun: the form that stands before a noun (my, your, his, her, its, our, their), the form that stands alone (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) and a form that does not show owning (me, you, him, she, it, us, them). Only one of the three makes a correct sentence. In the second set each blank takes a reflexive pronoun (myself, yourself, yourselves, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, themselves), and the right one matches the subject of the sentence. The forms were read in the Wikipedia articles Possessive determiner, Possessive and Reflexive pronoun on 9 October 2026. Possessive pronouns are standard L.1.1d and reflexive pronouns L.2.1c of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, published at thecorestandards.org and read the same day. No person, brand or character is named. Licence: own work

How it works

A possessive pronoun shows who owns something. My, your, his, her, its, our and their stand before a noun; mine, yours, hers, ours and theirs stand alone. Each sentence offers three forms of one pronoun, and only one fits.

My or mine

In ___ boots are by the back door, a noun follows the blank, so the answer is My. In Those muddy sneakers are ___, nothing follows, so the answer is mine. His works both ways, and its almost always stands before a noun.

Reflexive pronouns: myself, ourselves

Under Set, pick Myself, yourself, themselves. The pronoun matches whoever does the action: I poured myself a glass of milk; the kittens tired themselves out. Use this set as 2nd grade reflexive pronouns worksheets.

  • Mine, yours, hers, ours, theirs and its never take an apostrophe; it's means it is or it has.

Questions and answers

What is a possessive pronoun?

A word that stands in for a noun and shows owning: mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs. My, your, her, its, our and their do the same job before a noun; some grammar books call those possessive adjectives or determiners.

What grade learns possessive pronouns?

First grade in the Common Core: standard L.1.1d has children use personal, possessive and indefinite pronouns, such as my and their. Reflexive pronouns, such as myself and ourselves, are second grade, L.2.1c.

Is there a possessive pronouns worksheet for 2nd grade, 3rd grade or 4th grade?

This one, as review. The bank has longer sentences too, such as A friend of ___ lives on a houseboat, and your own lines can replace ours. Past first grade the grade is our suggestion.

Can I save a grammar worksheet on possessive pronouns as a PDF?

Press Print worksheet and choose Save as PDF as the printer. The key is the last page of the file, with the right choice circled under each sentence.
