This 1-20 numbers chart is a number chart for kindergarten: two rows of 10, so 11 sits under 1 and 20 under 10. Print it filled in, blank or with gaps.

A 1-20 number chart printable on one sheet

Press Print the chart. The sheet turns on its side and this number chart to 20 comes out as two rows of large numbers under a Name and Date line. Choose Blank, or Partly blank to hide 5, 10 or 15 of the 20 squares, and the filled chart prints as an answer key on a second page.

Other ranges, and the number words

1 to 10 and 11 to 20 are single rows, and 0 to 20 starts at zero. For a numbers 1-25 chart choose 1 to 25; 1 to 30 finishes the third row. The list All 31 number words, further down, has a note on each spelling: eighteen has one t, not two.

Tape the printed number sheet 1-20 to a desk, where a child can touch each number while counting.
Under More options, mark the multiples of 2 to show the even numbers. On paper each marked square gets a small shape.
For a child who is shaky after 10, print 11 to 20 with 50 percent hidden: one row of ten squares, 5 of them empty.

Questions and answers

Why does 11 sit under 1 on this chart?

Each row holds exactly 10 squares, so after 10 a new row starts: 11 lands under 1, 12 under 2 and 20 under 10. The ones digits line up in columns, which shows a teen number as one ten and some ones.

Is there a number chart 1-20 printable PDF?

There is no PDF button. Press Print the chart, then save as PDF in the print window. The file holds the chart you set up, and the answer key as a second page when squares are hidden.

Which range should I print?

1 to 10 and 11 to 20 are single rows, for the first ten or the teens. 0 to 20 starts at zero, and 1 to 25 and 1 to 30 add a third row. Past 30, move on to the 1-50 numbers chart.

How does the partly blank chart work on screen?

Zero to ten 11

zero is 0, the number for none at all. Only the 0 to 20 chart has it, in the top left corner. On that chart 10 sits under 0 and 20 sits under 10.
one is 1, the first square of every chart here that starts at 1. On the 1 to 20 chart the square under it is 11: one ten and 1 one.
two is 2. The w is silent in two, but you can hear it in twelve and twenty, which are both built on two.
three is 3. Keep this spelling in mind: thirteen and thirty both start thir-, not three-.
four is 4. All 4 letters stay in fourteen and twenty-four. 4 is double 2.
five is 5. Five turns into fif- in fifteen. Count by 5 on the 1 to 20 chart and you land on 5, 10, 15 and 20.
six is 6. Add -teen and you have sixteen, with no letter changed. 6 is double 3.
seven is 7. Clap it: sev-en has 2 beats. Every other number word from one to ten has 1.
eight is 8. The gh is silent. Eight already ends in t, which is why eighteen has one t and not two. 8 is double 4.
nine is 9. Nine keeps its e in nineteen. One more than 9 is 10, where the ones run out and the first ten is full.
ten is 10, the last square in the top row of the 1 to 20 chart. It is the first number written with 2 digits: 1 ten and 0 ones.

Eleven to nineteen 9

eleven is 11: one ten and 1 one. On the 1 to 20 chart it starts the second row, right under 1. Count up from one and eleven is the first word with 3 beats. It does not end in -teen.
twelve is 12, under 2 on the 1 to 20 chart: one ten and 2 ones. Twelve is the largest number whose word has just 1 beat, and 12 things make a dozen.
thirteen is 13, the first word that ends in -teen. It starts thir-, not three-. In digits it is one ten and 3 ones.
fourteen is 14: one ten and 4 ones. The word is four plus -teen. 14 is double 7.
fifteen is 15, the third stop when you count by 5. Five turns into fif- before -teen. It sits under 5 on the 1 to 20 chart.
sixteen is 16: one ten and 6 ones. The word is six plus -teen with nothing changed. 16 is double 8.
seventeen is 17. With 9 letters, seventeen is the longest number word from zero to twenty. It stands for one ten and 7 ones.
eighteen is 18, double 9. Eight and -teen share a t, so the word has one t, not two.
nineteen is 19: one ten and 9 ones. Nine keeps its e. One more makes 20, the last square of the 1 to 20 chart.

Twenty to thirty 11

twenty is 20: 2 tens and 0 ones. It ends the second row of the 1 to 20 chart, right under 10. The word began as two tens.
twenty-one is 21: 2 tens and 1 one. From here to twenty-nine the word takes a hyphen. It starts the third row, under 11.
twenty-two is 22, double 11, and the next number after 11 with both digits the same. It sits under 12.
twenty-three is 23. Say the tens first and the ones second: twenty, then three. It sits under 13.
twenty-four is 24: 2 tens and 4 ones. It is double 12, so 24 things make 2 dozen. It sits under 14.
