How it works

This large print word search printable opens on 12 garden words in a 12 by 12 grid, across and down only. Grid letters print bold near 28 point and the word list at 18, where large print starts.

How large the letters print

Large print is already on. The opening 12 words give letters of 28 point. Take words off the list until 8 are left for 29 point, or add up to 20 for about 24. A 15 by 15 grid still prints 19 point or more, and the grid grows no further, so no puzzle sheet drops below 18 point.

An extra large print word search: the 10 by 10 grid

Puzzle books call their biggest type jumbo. For a jumbo large print word search printable, take words off the list with their crosses until 8 are left: 29 point. No word here passes 9 letters, but 16 or 20 will not always fit. Or type your own over the words under the grid: grandchildren's names, streets from the old neighborhood.

On a tablet, tap a word's first letter, then its last. Nothing is dragged, which suits stiff fingers.
The American Council of the Blind's guidelines ask for off-white or cream paper with a matte finish, to reduce glare.

Questions and answers

What font size counts as large print?

18 point and larger, by the American Printing House for the Blind's measure. The American Council of the Blind's guidelines, adopted in May 2025, use 18 point too. Here the grid opens near 28 point, and the word list and instructions print at 18.

Is a big print word search the same thing?

Yes. Big print, big letter, large font and word find are other names for the same sheet: a word search set in type of 18 point or more.

Is there a large print word search printable PDF?

Can I make large word search puzzles for a whole group?

Why do the words only run across and down?
