How it works

A Labor Day word scramble for the first Monday of September, the holiday that honors American workers. Its 30 words are about jobs, the people who do them and the day off they earn.

Read the full guide

Wages, plumber, electrician

The easy list is short: Work, Jobs, Rest, Union, Wages. Medium, the opening sheet, holds Factory, Plumber, Welder and Payday. The hard list names the trades and the big words: Carpenter, Electrician, Occupation, Employment.

The Friday before the long weekend

Use it in the first days of school, before the holiday. The day came from the labor movement. New scramble jumbles Plumber and the rest again for a second sheet.

  • Pupils circle a job from the sheet they would like to try, and say why.
  • Carpenter, Electrician and Plumber are building trades: pupils name one more.
