Honor, tribute, half-staff
The easy list is short: Honor, Brave, Poppy, Duty. Medium, the opening sheet, holds Service, Courage, Tribute and Monument. The hard list has the words of the day itself: Half-staff, Remembrance, Decoration Day, Moment of silence.
A quiet task before the long weekend
Use the sheet to open a lesson on why the day exists. Decoration Day was its first name, from the custom of placing flowers at gravesites. New scramble jumbles the ten words again for a second class.
- Noon is on the list because the flag flies at half-staff only until then, and is then raised to the top.
