How it works
This math worksheet generator makes practice sheets for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It opens on addition up to 20. Set Numbers up to and Problems, or change Operation under More options, then press Print. Each sheet fills one page of Letter or A4, and the answer key prints on page 2.

Pick the operation and the size of the numbers
Open More options and set Operation to Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication or Division. For addition, Numbers up to caps the sum at 10, 20, 50, 100 or 1000. For subtraction it caps the number you start from. Up to 10 there are 45 possible problems, and up to 20 there are 190. Multiplication and division swap that menu for Times tables: one table alone, or a set such as 2 to 10. Every division has a whole-number answer.
Set out the page
Problems has six sizes: 12, 20, 30, 40, 60 or 100. Each one fills a full page. A 12-problem sheet leaves wide gaps for counters or drawings, and a 100-problem sheet is a tight grid. Layout is under More options. Stacked, which this page opens on, writes one number above the other with a line beneath, as in column addition. In a line writes 8 + 5 = with a space for the answer. Name, date and score lines sit at the top.
Keep, share and reprint a sheet
Make a new sheet draws new problems with the same settings, which gives a second version for retakes. Print prints the sheet and its key. To leave the key off, clear Answer key on page 2 under More options. Once you make or change a sheet, Share link and Copy as text appear under it. The link reopens exactly that sheet, and the copy is plain text. Your last sheet is kept in this browser, and Bring back your last sheet reopens it next time.
- For basic math worksheets in kindergarten and first grade, set Numbers up to to 10 and Problems to 12 or 20. That leaves room to draw or use counters.
- Keep kids math worksheets short and frequent. Two 20-problem sheets on different days tell you more than one sheet of 100.
- Numbers up to 100 and 1000 mix carrying and borrowing with easier problems. Scan the sheet, and press Make a new sheet if the mix is wrong.
- Give subtraction the same number size as last week's addition. Pupils meet the same number bonds from the other side.
- For times tables alone, the multiplication worksheet generator opens with the tables already set and prints the full 1 to 12 grid on its page.
Questions and answers
What grades is this math worksheet maker for?
Roughly kindergarten to fourth grade. In Common Core terms, first grade adds and subtracts within 20, second grade becomes fluent within 100, and third grade within 1000, the same year the times tables are learned. The tool does not make fractions, decimals, multi-digit multiplication, long division or word problems. From fourth grade up it is a fluency warm-up and not a full source of worksheets.
Can one sheet mix all four operations?
No. Each sheet holds one operation. For mixed review, print a 12 or 20-problem sheet for each operation and staple them into a pack. Changing Operation under More options keeps the number of problems and the layout.
Will subtraction ever give a negative answer, or use zero?
No. Every subtraction takes a smaller number from a larger one, so the answer is always at least 1. Nothing is added to zero or taken away as zero either. Problems like 7 + 0 and 7 − 0 teach little and use up a space on the page. The same rule holds at every size, from numbers up to 10 to numbers up to 1000.
How are the problems chosen, and are the answers right?
The tool lists every problem that fits your settings, shuffles the list and deals from it. Nothing repeats until the whole list has been used. The same code that writes each problem works out its answer, and the key prints the two side by side. It is still worth checking the first key you print, as you would any answer key.
Can pupils answer on a screen?
No, this page makes paper. The sheet on screen is a preview, and nothing can be typed into it. For practice on a tablet or a classroom display, the multiplication flash cards page in the links below takes typed answers and keeps score. You can also send a share link home, and a family can print the same sheet and its key.
