How it works

Call the word in its sentence

In Call the game, each call shows a word and a sentence that uses it: whale, A whale came up for air. Say the word, the sentence, then the word again, and children cover it. To check a win, have the child read each covered word and name its digraph.

One digraph at a time

Each digraph has its own list of 20 words, so a 4 × 4 card carries 16 of them. In the ph list the digraph often sits in the middle, as in dolphin and elephant.

  • With 25 cards and all 100 words, a first line usually takes 16 to 33 calls; with one list of 20, 5 to 8.
