Call the meaning and the example
In Call the game, each call gives a meaning and an example: again, as in refill. Un-, non-, in- and im- all mean not, so the example word decides which square is covered.
A harder call
Leave the word part out. Say the meaning and the base word, such as not and happy, or without and care. Pupils build unhappy or careless and cover un- or -less. To check a win, ask for a new word for each covered part.
- With 25 cards in play, a first line usually comes between calls 11 and 21, or between 7 and 11 with prefixes alone.
Questions and answers
What is prefix and suffix bingo?
A bingo game for word parts. Each card holds 24 prefixes and suffixes around a free center. You read a meaning with an example word, and pupils cover the part that carries it.
What is the difference between a prefix and a suffix?
A prefix is added to the beginning of a word and a suffix to the end, and each changes the meaning. Un- in unhappy is a prefix; -ful in helpful is a suffix.
Can I play prefix bingo or suffix bingo on its own?
Yes. Pick Prefixes or Suffixes in Ready-made list and every card is drawn from those 28. All 56 affixes brings both back.
